“You don’t take a photograph, you make it” – Ansel Adams
To that end, I was pleased the other day when the kind and friendly UPS bloke brought me a package. Inside was a set of triggers and receivers to allow me to get my flashes off the camera.
Why would I want to do that? Well, to add dynamic and interesting light to a photo if the ambient or natural light isn’t playing ball. Or, to simply get a lot more light into a photo – such as at a Wedding reception – when typically, it’s extremely dark and notoriously difficult to take photos.
So, rather than taking a photograph, I can make it. Here’s two examples of using flashes in different ways. On the left is our dear departed Sunflower – lit with two flashes, one either side. On the right, is Rachel – lit from above.
